I finished my first #Inktober and I gotta tell you, it was actually harder than I thought it was going to be.

inktober2019, inktober, inktober prompt list

When you first look at the prompt list you might think that it's going to be an easy feat to draw every day. This was not the case. I used the Official 2019 Prompt list from Inktober.com.

I started off doing pretty well but as the days went on I began to overthink the prompt list and made it difficult on myself. I ended up only doing 25 of the 31 days but it is better than nothing.

inktober day 1 ring

Inktober Day 1: Ring

I could have drawn a wedding ring or maybe Sonic The Hedgehog collecting rings, but that's just not my style. If you know me you would know that I go for creepy zombie-ish monsters and creatures. So this is what I came up with. This monster has a ring going through its body that it has to carry. Symbolic? I'm not sure but I like how it came out.

inktober day 2 mindless

Inktober Day 2: Mindless

I enjoy the simplicity of this drawing. The character in the drawing is simply letting his thoughts escape. Maybe he has terrifying memories that haunt him and needs to just keep a blank mind.

inktober day 3 bait

Inktober Day 3: Bait

This drawing was inspired by Aladdin. I was watching a trailer of the live-action movie and remembered the part where the sand transformed into a tiger, which became a trap for whoever tried to retrieve the magic lamp. Similar to the movie, the drawing shows a monster disguised as a cave. A gem is located right inside its mouth which will shut closed as soon as someone steps inside.

inktober day 4 freeze

Inktober Day 4: Freeze

For this drawing, I decided to use a character that I developed back in 2010 for a game called Zombie-No-Zombie. The drawing is pretty straight forward, the character is frozen. There's nothing much to it.

inktober day 5 build

Inktober Day 5: Build

I drew something a bit more geometric for this sketch. It is a treehouse that is being built with plenty of rooms stacked on top of each other.

inktober day 6 husky

Inktober Day 6: Husky

During this time in the challenge, I was starting to get behind and began doing less creative sketches. Initially, I wanted to create a ware-husky (like a werewolf but with a husky instead). I ended up searching pictures of huskies on google and drew this one up.

inktober day 7 enchanted

Inktober Day 7: Enchanted

When I first read the prompt for the day only one thing came to mind, an enchanted fish. See, I had a dream about magic fish swimming in the air a long time ago and the image of them has always remained in my head. The drawing did not come out as great as I wanted it to be but it still captivates the prompt word really well.

inktober day 8 frail

Inktober Day 8: Frail

This day was an easy one for me. What is frailer than a damn zombie. I mean, zombies are already dead and rotten. I'm sure you can knock off their head by just pushing against it.

inktober day 9 swing

Inktober Day 9: Swing

The prompt for this day was one that I had a lot of ideas for. A swinging ax. A baseball player hitting a home run. In the end, I kept it simple and drew a girl on a swing but added a twist. The tree is on the edge of a cliff and the girl is swinging dangerously with no safe ground underneath.

inktober day 10 pattern

Inktober Day 10: Pattern

This piece of art was inspired by a drawing I had made a long time ago. Basically I just drew a heart shape, divided it into separate areas, and filled each area with a pattern.

inktober day 11 snow

Inktober Day 11: Snow

Once again I added a twist to the boring old snowman. The drawing did not end up as epic as I had it planned in my head, but at least it's different.

inktober day 12 dragon

Inktober Day 12: Dragon

I am not good at drawing dragons. I tried multiple times and did not like the results. The only way I was able to create this drawing was to just relax and draw it in "my" style. I had to stop overthinking the drawing and wanting to draw a traditional dragon. In the end, this drawing slightly passes as a dragon but hey, that's good for me.

inktober day 13 ash

Inktober Day 13: Ash

100 points if you know where this drawing is from. yes, I borrowed it but it's a perfect match!! The drawing is a firelink shrine as described by the game. Nothing in this game made me as happy as finding one of these shrines in the middle of nowhere.

inktober day 14 overgrown

Inktober Day 14: Overgrown

I was gonna do the obvious and draw an overgrown plant or something alike. But, decided to do something different. Surprize, surprize. Check out this zombie with overgrown hair.

inktober day 15 legend

Inktober Day 15: Legend

This one is my favorite Inktober piece. Midna from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This character has a great design and I enjoyed drawing it. I never did finish this game.

inktober day 16 wild

Inktober Day 16: Wild

A wild Torkoal appeared! Yes, and it looks like it has a 5 o'clock shadow. I tried to add textures and shadows to this drawing but failed a bit.

inktober day 17 ornament

Inktober Day 17: Ornament

Seeing how we are close to the holidays it was an easy pick. A sphere ornament for the Christmas tree. I'm sure Red Skull will be happy to buy a pack of these.

inktober day 18 misfit

Inktober Day 18: Misfit

I know, its another obvious one. The only other idea I had was drawing Harley Quinn but that was after seeing a couple artists choose it for the prompt. I didn't want to copy them.

inktober day 19 sling

Inktober Day 19: Sling

Nothing came to mind. Maybe David and Goliath but I really didn't feel like drawing much this day. Hence, a sling.

inktober day 19 tread

Inktober Day 20: Tread

I admit it, for some reason I thought it said "thread". The game Little Big Planet came to mind.

inktober day 21 treasure

Inktober Day 21: Treasure

Pretty simple and to the point. Treasure at the bottom of the sea. This drawing is different from the rest since I drew a while scene and not just one object or character.

inktober day 22 ghost

Inktober Day 22: Ghost

The ghost in this drawing is based on an old drawing I did a long time ago while I was in high school. I kept it pretty much the same as far as the feel of it.

inktober day 23 ancient

Inktober Day 23: Ancient

While thinking of what to draw for this prompt all that came to my head was Shadow of the Colossus. This game has really cool ancient creatures that just wander the lands. Now that I think about it, my drawing looks more like the ancient machines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

inktober day 25 tasty

Inktober Day 25: Tasty

What can be tastier than a nice, big, juicy hamburger? A lot of other things of course but this one is a classic.

You might have noticed that we skipped number 24 and that 26 through 31st are missing. Well, I did not finish the #InktoberChallenge. I did my best but I believe that I was overthinking the prompts, wanting to create something unique. It was really hard coming up with concepts and even harder trying to put those concepts on paper. There were a lot of good ideas that never came to be because I was not skilfull enough to execute them. Next year I'll make sure to keep the drawings simple as I learn to draw more with inks. Even though I did not finish all the prompts, I learned plenty and will be sure to finish next year's challenge.
